Un[contextualised]
10 October – 5 December 2023
If an object has no context or has been rid of its historical, geological, and cultural significance, it is essentially open to interpretation. The exhibition encourages viewers to take part in this interactive collaboration by sharing their feelings and experiences of the work in order to connect with the art and others in a meaningful and playful way. This thought-provoking exhibition prompts viewers to think about the meaning and context behind a given work of art and the ways in which its significance is constructed. Is meaning in art primarily shaped by its context or its intrinsic qualities? Chance encounters and arbitrary associations provide a plurality of contexts. These, when isolated from any prescribed and predetermined contexts, provide an artistic interpretation unique to each individual. Meaning and understanding are laid bare and open.
